Nancy Bennett Zunich – Nancy, her husband Jack and Bear (their cat) moved to Glen Cove’s Harbor Homes community in December 2021 from Dublin, California. Both she and her husband were born in San Mateo County and are proud natives of the Bay Area. Nancy continues to work part time as a dietitian in an Adult Day Health Care agency in San Francisco that serves emigres from the Ukraine. She is an avid gardener and is currently enrolled in Solano/Yolo counties’ master gardeners program.  Nancy loves to hike and she can be frequently found wandering the hills overlooking the Carquinez Strait. Nancy finds the spirit of Glen Cove’s community members inspiring to watch: from the gal armed with long handled pinchers collecting other peoples trash on Glen Cove parkway to the gentleman who picks up other-peoples-dog-poop with long handled pinchers and a five gallon Lowes bucket on his own dog’s tri-daily walk. These are the actions of special people who love their community, want to be of service and be a part of the solution. Nancy’s mission is to be, in some small way, part of the solution. She would like to join her neighbors in their efforts to create a Glen Cove where all can be proud of their community and all can be a part of the solution.

Jason Frost – Jason is a native of Oakland, with family across the greater state of California.  He’s lived along the East Coast and the South for 16 years, where he experienced different American cultures that has shaped his perspective on the quality of life.  He moved to Glen Cove in October of 2020, after selling his home in a East Oakland neighborhood that raised him. While living in Oakland, he served as a member of the Neighborhood Association, spearheading beautification, safety and traffic calming initiatives geared to improve the quality of life in the Havenscourt district of East Oakland. He partnered with several districts leads to propose community improvement proposals to Mayor Libby Shaaf, ensuring the residents of his district were heard and appreciated.  As leader in healthcare, a future Real Estate Appraiser, a previous Subway Sandwiches franchisee, and well decorated scholar, he is ready for the challenge of transforming the place we call home, Glen Cove!

Christine Gipson is a representative from Glen Cove Hills.  Christine is a California native with family roots dating back three generations in the Bay Area and five generations if the geography expands to greater California.  She moved to Glen Cove in 2020 with her cats and partner, Kevin.  They appreciate our proximity to the water, being close to nature while balancing access to the surrounding cities and services.  Christine works in human resources as a compensation professional, enjoys reading and audiobooks, tries to go camping on a regular basis and takes daily morning walks in the neighborhood.

John Fox has lived in Glen Cove since about 2002, and has been on the GCCA Board for many years. John has been the president for Seascape HOA, his development for about the entire time I’ve been here. Trustee John Fox was elected in 2020 to the Vallejo City Unified School District Board of Education. Fox, who is currently a third-grade teacher at the Mt. Diablo School District, has been an elementary school educator for more than 25 years. He has also served as a reading intervention and program specialist in the education system. When he is not teaching, Fox is very active in the community. He is the president of the Solano County School Board Association, and the vice-chair of the Stonewall Democrats of Solano County. He is also a member of the Central Democrats of Solano County, where he was named the Southern Democrat of the Year in 2021. A native Michigander, Fox earned his bachelor’s of art in liberal studies from Sonoma State University and his administrative credential from St. Mary’s College. Fox is single and lives in Vallejo with his two dachshunds dogs, Otto and Theo. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with friends, walking, hiking and gardening.

Samuel Levis moved to Glen Cove (California Lighthouse) and joined the GCCA board in 2022. He was born near New York City and grew up in Athens, Greece. He returned to the US for college and grad-school and settled in Boulder, Colorado for 16 years before moving to the Bay Area in 2015. Sam’s career has centered on climate-change research through the use of computer models. He has always been drawn to the outdoors, and he spent much of his free time in Colorado hiking. He has also always loved to dance and in 2009 he discovered a dance form called Contact Improvisation, which he practices weekly in Berkeley. Sam tries to practice the moto “think globally, act locally” and he believes that close-knit, active communities tend to be healthier and stronger communities. With that in mind, he looks forward to putting roots in Glen Cove and calling it home.

Kathryn Marocchino is a Development Representative for Olde Towne I and has served on the Board of Directors of the Glen Cove Community Association since its inception. She and her husband Gianfranco moved to beautiful Glen Cove in 1988 and were among the founding members of the original Glen Cove Homeowners Association. Kathryn is a full professor in the Department of Culture and Communication at California State University Maritime, where her most popular class continues to be the campus’s first service-learning course in death and dying, which she developed in 1999 by forming a unique partnership with Kaiser Vallejo’s Hospice Department. Soon after, she established Cal Maritime’s first Community Service Learning Center, which she directed for 7 years.

Kathryn is also the president and founder of The Nikki Hospice Foundation for Pets (The NHFP), the nation’s first non-profit organization dedicated to providing home hospice care for companion animals at end of life. Since 1998, she has been offering animal hospice consultations and pet loss support on a nationwide basis through The NHFP’s telephone counseling service and is the creator of Vallejo’s annual Pet Remembrance Candle Lighting, which The NHFP holds every year in partnership with our local Humane Society of the North Bay. She recently became a co-founder of the Animal Hospice Group, a non-profit that offers a certification course in animal hospice and palliative care and is about to launch the first national animal hospice help-line.

For over a decade, Kathryn has also coordinated the efforts of the Cal Maritime Community Cat TNRA Program (now on its way to becoming an official non-profit), whose mission is to manage the forgotten felines who live on campus grounds. After she and her husband were awarded the “President’s Lifetime Volunteer Call to Service Award” for their work in The NHFP, they were inspired to begin caring for a small family of community cats on their own premises—most of them special needs, seniors or in hospice care. In 2020, their beloved Glen Cove property, Rosemoor House, was granted “Certified Wildlife Habitat” status by the National Wildlife Federation for their efforts at creating a quality refuge for birds and other creatures who call their towering redwoods home.

Pat Tomasello is a registered nurse. After 24 years of bedside nursing, she was lucky enough to retire from the Intensive Care Unit at a Kaiser Hospital. At the same time, Pat was a Nurse Representative for the California Nurses Union. Pat has been a resident of Quiet Harbor since 1998, and is a member of the Glen Cove Community Association because she loves Glen Cove and wants to preserve this jewel of a community. Pat currently serves as the Board Secretary.

Adriana Fuentes has called Vallejo home since 2016.  Adriana is excited to join the GCCA board as a representative for her development, Glen Cove Landing, where she hopes to advocate for other residents and neighbors while promoting the mission of the GCCA to support the wellbeing of the community and foster civic engagement.  Adriana earned her masters degree from CSU, East Bay, in Social Work, and finds joy in serving her community utilizing a social justice lens, with an emphasis on community health, safety, and wellbeing. Adriana loves the water views throughout Vallejo and especially along Glen Cove Waterfront park. You might find her hiking along the shore taking a photo of a stellar sunset behind the Carquinez bridge.

Neal Zimmerman and his wife Monica (pictured with him in full photo) purchased their home in 2002 in Harbour Towne, the development overlooking the famous Lighthouse Building in the Glen Cove Marina.  They love their view of the water and all of the activity along the Carquinez Straits.  Monica and Neal sold advertising for most of their career, and handle the advertising sales for the GCCA’s quarterly newsletter. Neal joined the Glen Cove Community Association Board of Directors in 2012 after receiving help from the GCCA Board with a difficult neighborhood issue.  He was impressed by the community commitment of the Board members. Neal led an effort to publish a resource guide for Glen Cove residents called “Connections Magazine” in July, 2018.  This effort, which included surveying residents about their top community concerns helped shape several of the GCCA’s top priorities: (1) reopening Glen Cove Fire Station 26, (2) addressing the critical LMD maintenance issues our community faced and, (3) focused attention on safety issues affecting all Glen Cove residents such as fire concerns and unsafe driving throughout Glen Cove. Neal is completing his two-year term as President of the GCCA in January 2022.  He has emphasized recruiting smart and passionate residents to become Board Members.  He feels the GCCA is in good hands. Neal and Monica have three children and the five most beautiful and smartest grandchildren in the entire world.

Dina Morrison is a Bay Area native, but relatively new to Glen Cove, moving into the neighborhood in 2017. Dina is not only a resident but also has two businesses in Glen Cove. She is the Doctor/owner of Performance Chiropractic and Broker/owner of Morrison Real Estate.  When she has free time, a round of golf tops her list.  As the rep for The Ridge, she is well known for her daily dog walks.

Jim Sotiros is the representative for The Estates development. He joined the GCCA board in 2021 and has lived in Glen Cove with his six rescue cockatiels since 2009.  Jim is on the board of Proof School, a 6-12 grade school in San Francisco for kids who love math, and is chair of the fundraising committee to bring a new hybrid organ to the Castro Theatre.  Jim retired from the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley where he served as a chief development officer. He also held university relations appointments at the University of San Diego, Dominican University of California, and Touro University of California  He is a former President of the Solano Sunset Rotary Club, Vallejo. Ralph Mariscal became Vice-President of GCCA in January 2022. He has lived in Glen Cove for over 30 years. He and his wife raised their family here. Two of their children also bought homes here in Glen Cove. Ralph and his wife have 7 granddaughters and 4 of them live within 5 minutes of them. What a blessing to have them close. Ralph and his wife both retired from Chevron in 2011 and have greatly enjoyed traveling, but there was something missing. Giving back to the community became Ralph’s passion. Ralph got involved with GCCA when speaking to City officials about reopening our fire station. Ralph was given a flat “no,” but Ralph doesn’t take no for an answer, so he got involved and waged a 2-year campaign. It has been reopened! Ralph will continue to work for the safety of our residents here in Glen Cove.

Andrea Sorce and her husband Slater met as Peace Corps volunteers in Honduras and purchased their first home in Glen Cove in 2018, in Harbour Towne. Their cats regularly join them and their dog for walks near Glen Cove Marina. Andrea grew up in North Carolina and moved to the Bay Area after college, where she started her career in K-12 education. After earning an MPA from Harvard Kennedy School, she pivoted into community college teaching and is an Assistant Professor of Economics at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill. Passionate about economic and social justice, she volunteers in support of Central American asylum seekers and survivors of domestic violence. She is a founding co-chair of the Solano County Chapter of the ACLU, which launched in Fall 2021.

Kristen Hannum Gregory has been a resident of Glen Cove since 1989, being the original purchaser of her home in Waterview Terrace.  She enjoys walking the trails and neighborhoods of our beautiful setting, playing the piano, sharing the exhilaration of flying an airplane with kids and adults, skiing and hiking in Tahoe, reading/listening to history and biographies, brushing up on my German and French, and serving our community.

Ward Stewart has been the representative for The Pointe development since 1998 having moved to Glen Cove in that year. His activities on the board include Membership, Landscape Maintenance District and Audit committees, writing articles for the newsletter, volunteering at the GC food pantry, and, as they say, other duties as needed. Ward retired from U.C. Davis where he taught mathematics and eventually became director of his department that provides academic assistance to students with an emphasis on those who are first-generation and low-income. He is currently chair of the Solano Community College District’s Citizen Bond Oversight Committee where members monitor the expenditure of Measure Q’s $348 million bond. After retirement in 2011 Ward enrolled in the Master Gardener Program and volunteers at the Vallejo Farmers’ Market in that capacity. He is also a member of the Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum’s Garden Tour Committee. He met his wife, Elissa, when they both taught in the Upward Bound Program at the University of Maryland. After he finished graduate school in 1977, they moved to California. They have two adult children and two grandchildren.

Joseph Hayden became President of GCCA in January 2022. He is one of two representatives for Headlands development, having joined the GCCA board in June 2021, shortly after moving to Glen Cove with his husband and their dogs. Coincidentally, the previous owner of the house was also on the GCCA board! Joseph has enjoyed undertaking a revamp of the website for GCCA, as well as speaking at Vallejo City Council a few times, including once with fellow board members to ensure reopening of Fire Station 26, facilitated by a widely distributed email campaign. Writing for the newsletter is also one of the ways he likes to contribute. Joseph is also a director at the Humane Society of the North Bay and has worked to fight Big Tobacco since the early 1990’s. For years Joseph was also on the board of FamilyEquality.org, which advocates for queer (LGBTQ+) parenting rights. While from California originally, Joseph grew up in Sardinia and Calabria, Italy, Catalonia, Spain, and New York City, but mostly in Hayward. After attending high school in the East Bay, Joseph attended college and law school in New York. His daughter alternates between living in New York and the Bay Area. Joseph is a business owner and works as a Technical Project Manager in the healthcare industry. This is Joseph’s personal blog and this is Joseph’s Linkedin profile. Feel free to connect!
